MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER, SEAN KELLY

Being a man in recovery has its own unique challenges. Society’s message has long been that men are not supposed to have feelings or show emotions. This rings especially true for me being that I served in The United States Marine Corps. I loved that period of my life, and the brotherhood I found myself a part of. However, in those days, the phrase “suck-it up buttercup" often came out of my mouth when a peer expressed an emotion such as fear, sadness, or being homesick. Young men are supposed to be tough, hardened, and bulletproof right? Truth is they need guidance and tools to deal with the emotions they are not even supposed to have.

The mission of Rally Point Supportive Living is to give men a safe place to fall back to. A place where the camaraderie among staff and peers creates an environment of empathy and removes judgment. As a man in long-term recovery, I recognize now that had it not been for the men that guided me along this path, I would not be sober today. I had to get vulnerable, and I had to feel it was safe to do so. I created Rally Point to offer a place for men seeking solace from the stigma that society places on them and addiction. A place to get well, by being of service and being accountable.
